About this program
The THT Conservation Grant for Critical Habitats 2026 is a funding initiative from The Habitats Trust that supports biodiversity conservation across India. It targets organisations working on lesser-known species, data-deficient taxa, and habitats that are overlooked or under threat.
Funding is provided for a three-year period, allowing recipients to build and execute long-term, evidence-based conservation programmes rather than short-term fixes. Projects are expected to combine ecological research, habitat protection, and community involvement to achieve sustainable and scalable outcomes.
For the 2026 cycle, two shortlisted organisations will receive support. The grant favours projects that align with national biodiversity priorities, show measurable results, use strong methodologies, and have the potential for wide-reaching, lasting conservation impact in India.

How to apply
Applications are to be submitted via the online portal of The Habitats Trust Grants. Following submission, external auditors conduct an initial screening to verify eligibility and completeness of the applications. Those that pass this stage are then assessed by a Sub-Jury, composed of experts and sector specialists, against predefined evaluation parameters. Applicants who are shortlisted proceed to a field-level evaluation and site verification, carried out jointly by the Sub-Jury and the THT team. After thorough due diligence, finalists are chosen and invited to present their projects before the Jury. Based on these evaluations and presentations, the Jury makes the final decision on grant recipients. Successful organisations must complete onboarding formalities prior to the release of funds.
