About this program
The "Financial Assistance for Purchase of Battery Operated Vehicles" scheme has been introduced by the Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development and Investment Corporation Limited (PIPDIC), which functions under the Department of Industries & Commerce, Puducherry. Its purpose is to encourage the uptake of electric mobility throughout the Union Territory of Puducherry by improving access to battery-operated vehicles for residents, businesses, and societal organisations.
Financial support is offered to ease the upfront expense of acquiring such vehicles, supporting broader objectives around renewable energy, lower carbon emissions, and sustainable transport. The scheme covers a wide range of applicants, from individual residents to registered companies and societies, to maximise its reach.
An investment subsidy of ₹80,000/- is available, funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. This amount is directed specifically to eligible Companies or Societies, promoting collective adoption of green vehicles. Applications are submitted entirely online through the dedicated PIPDIC portal, which simplifies the process for all applicants.

How applications are assessed
Applications received online undergo a preliminary check for completeness and adherence to eligibility requirements. The evaluation covers the applicant's profile, particulars of the vehicle intended for purchase, and the documentation submitted, which includes promoter biodata and KYC details. PIPDIC's assessment committee reviews the loan request, taking into account the proposed collateral security, to decide on eligibility for the financial support and the subsidy component. Applications that are shortlisted move ahead for subsequent processing, culminating in the approval of the term loan.
