About this program
Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives supports civil-society organisations that work on the ground with the most marginalised populations across India. Grants are typically multi-year and are designed to strengthen the organisation, not only to fund a specific project.
APPI funds across a wide range of themes — education, livelihoods, health, governance, and vulnerable groups — and its approach favours partners with a track record and a clear locus in the community they serve.

How to apply
APPI does not run an open application window. Prospective grantees write to the foundation with a concept note; the foundation invites detailed proposals from a shortlist.
What the money can be spent on
Grants typically fund core organisational costs including salaries, office overheads and programme delivery. Capital expenditure and endowment building are usually out of scope.
Frequently asked questions
Does APPI accept unsolicited proposals?
APPI does not run a fixed open call. Prospective partners are asked to send a short concept note by email; the foundation reaches out to shortlisted organisations for a full proposal.
Is FCRA registration mandatory?
APPI funds are Indian in origin, so FCRA registration is not required to receive them. 12A and 80G are expected.
