About this program

The Grid Connected Rooftop Scheme (Phase-II) is run by the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA), which operates under the Department of Energy, Government of Uttarakhand. The scheme promotes rooftop solar installations among domestic households, group housing societies, and residential welfare associations across the state. It responds to rising electricity costs by encouraging the use of sustainable energy systems.

Households that take part can lower their monthly electricity bills and also earn from surplus power. Any extra electricity generated by the solar panels is fed back into the state grid through net metering, creating a second income stream. This combination of savings and earnings makes solar power a practical option for a broad set of residential users.

The scheme supports household-level energy independence and helps Uttarakhand move closer to its renewable energy goals, in line with national objectives on sustainable development and lower carbon emissions. UREDA provides direct financial incentives to make clean energy adoption both economically sound and environmentally responsible for residents.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Register and Submit Online Application
Start by creating an account on the official MNRE portal at www.solarrooftop.gov.in. After registration, file your application for the Grid Connected Rooftop Scheme through the same portal. This step records your intention and preliminary project information.

  • Step 2: Receive No Objection Certificate (NOC)
Once your application is submitted, UPCL (Uttaranchal Power Corporation Limited) will generate a No Objection Certificate (NOC) online. This document is required before you can move ahead with setting up the solar system.

  • Step 3: Install the Solar Plant
After obtaining the NOC, you may proceed with the installation of the rooftop solar plant. The installation must be carried out by a vendor empanelled with UPCL, ensuring adherence to quality and safety norms.

  • Step 4: Grid Hook-Up and Net Metering
Following installation, UPCL will link your system to the electricity grid. A net meter will be fitted to track both the power drawn from and fed into the grid, allowing you to take advantage of net-metering provisions.

  • Step 5: Upload Documents and Receive Subsidy
After the grid connection and net meter are in place, upload all relevant paperwork—such as installation reports and connection details—to the MNRE portal. Finally, enter your bank account information on the portal, and the applicable subsidy will be transferred directly to that account.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for the Grid Connected Rooftop Scheme (Phase-II)?

All domestic consumers, group housing societies, and residential welfare associations in Uttarakhand can apply for this scheme, which is intended for residential entities installing rooftop solar systems.

What is the maximum subsidy amount I can receive?

For the first 3 kW of capacity, individual domestic consumers can receive up to ₹17,662 per kW from the Government of India and ₹17,000 per kW from the Uttarakhand State Government, with an additional ₹8,831 per kW from the Government of India for capacities between 3 kW and 10 kW, totalling roughly ₹1.65 lakh for a 10 kW plant. Group housing societies and residential welfare associations are eligible for a Government of India subsidy of ₹8,831 per kW for plants up to 10 kW capacity.

How is the subsidy disbursed to the beneficiaries?

The subsidy is transferred directly to the consumer's bank account once the solar plant is installed, connected to the grid by UPCL via a net meter, and all records are fully uploaded to the MNRE portal. Consumers must provide their bank account details on the portal for the grant to be released.

What are the primary benefits of installing a rooftop solar plant under this scheme?

The primary benefit is a substantial cut in monthly electricity costs through self-generated power. Consumers can also earn money by feeding surplus solar electricity back into the grid, improving the financial case for the system.

Is there a specific deadline to apply for this scheme?

Applications are submitted online through the MNRE portal, with no fixed deadline, so eligible consumers may apply whenever they are ready to install a solar rooftop system. The rolling basis of the process allows applications to be made at any time.
