About this program
The Meghalaya Sericulture and Weaving Scheme, run by the Department of Textiles under the Planning, Investment Promotion & Sustainable Development Department of the Government of Meghalaya, is a credit-linked initiative offering up to 75% financial assistance on total project costs. It supports entrepreneurs and collectives in launching sericulture and weaving ventures.
The scheme prioritises Eri silk, a traditional fabric unique to Meghalaya, and also accommodates Muga silk, given the state’s suitable climate. Assistance covers the establishment of grainages for producing Disease-Free Layings (DFL), spinning, reeling, natural dyeing, and weaving units. This is intended to expand the silk industry, unlock entrepreneurial potential, and position Meghalaya’s yarn and fabric in international markets.
The programme also serves to preserve traditional crafts and strengthen local livelihoods, contributing to sustainable development and economic growth within the state.
