The Ministry of Textiles is the central government body that formulates policy and promotes India's textiles and apparel sector. Its National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), launched in 2020 with an outlay of INR 1,480 crore, seeks to establish India as a global leader in technical textiles.
Under the NTTM, the GREAT (Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles) scheme provides grants of up to INR 50 lakh per startup to help convert prototypes into commercially viable technologies and products. So far, 24 startups have received approval under GREAT. The mission also covers market development, export promotion, and skill development programmes aimed at training 50,000 individuals. Technical textiles find use across automobiles, civil engineering, agriculture, healthcare, and personal protection.
Startups, young innovators, and scientists working on technical textiles for medical, industrial, protective, agricultural, or construction applications can benefit from this funding to commercialise their functional prototypes.
