Fund for Innovation in Development

The Fund for Innovation in Development (FID) operates under the aegis of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), with Esther Duflo serving as its chair. Its mandate is to support innovations that demonstrate credible evidence of reducing poverty and inequality in low- and middle-income countries. The fund provides financial backing to a range of actors, including social enterprises, for-profit entities, NGOs, researchers, and public institutions.

Funding is disbursed in a staged manner, moving from preparation and pilot phases through to impact evaluation and eventual scale-up. This structured approach allows the organisation to accompany projects at different levels of maturity, ensuring that resources are directed where they can generate measurable results.
